PHOS gathering

Friday, August 22, 2008
Attendence: Douglas, Alister, Josiah, Elaine, Chee Wai, Tamie, Sheryn, Daphne (new comer) and Aaron (the return of the canadian boy)

hahaha...really very happy to see Daphne and Aaron in among our midst...it was very joyful and glad that we again reunion again after long long time...welcome to both of u...hope to see both of u there more regularly...togather we learn, togather we serve and togather we grow...that's really wonderful...

nothing more specific topic Doug shared...we merely spend a very short time of word yet it was very meaningful that we did shared much...2 way communication maaa...

we shared about what is serving...i think most of us will say i involve in BB, or Gb or worship or children or youth ministry or even multiple of it...we will thought and assume that serving is full of action and involvement of physical activity...

Doug highlighted to us that serving God is utilise the gift that God have given to each one of us to GROW AND BUILD THE CHURCH (PEOPLE)...serving is not merely resricted to those who lead worship, lead youth, sit as EMC or CC member of HLLC but rather to serve each other with love...like the bible say, there are plenty of different gift which imparted to each individual, in other word, different people will have unique and different gift...

WHY???
it is because a church is a body with many parts and each part meet different people to play a role and build the CHURCH specifically...please don't underestimate yourself who can't lead on the stage or lack of knowledge in teaching, you might have gift of encouragement...u can use this gift where to encourage others is a where to serve and build the CHURCH...u can also privately pray for each other...it is a way to support each other...be a listening ear to those who in need...simple way can bring huge impact to the CHURCH...

MORE HEART AND MORE EFFORT FOR EACH OTHER
SERVE EACH OTHER WITH LOVE

passion (by sheryn)

ok...this is the assignment which is given by my future pastor..a report(or rather a summary) for PASSION concert in Sunway Convention Centre on 3rd August..really do not know what to write though..but I guess that Im still able to remember something..hehe..here it goes..
=> worship by Chris Tomlin

It was amazing..but at first,Im like 'huh'(started adi?) since I havent warm up..lol..so tired..but I got excited!!The worship is just so nice that I wished the night will never end..During halfway,we were asked to pray in three silently and to pray as short as possible which is my 1st time as in concert since we usually pray it out loudly and long..And yea, this reminds me ....

Matthew 6:5-8
5 "And when you pray,do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men.I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray,go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father ,who is unseen. Then your father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray,do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.=> Sermon by Louie GiglioWe made by God for God.God expect us to live for him(reminds me about the movie 'Pay It Forward'..The world expect nothing from us). When God asked something from us,our only answer should be "Yes,Lord!!"We should never say this :
1)No,Lord
2)Wait,Lord
3)Maybe,Lord
4)I will pray about it,Lord :P2 Corinthians 5:2121God made him(Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him(Jesus) we might become the righteous of God.It is all by grace that God send His son who are nothing but righteous to take away our sin so that we can be righteous with God.God accept us and love us no matter who we are because of His grace ~Amazing Grace~

2 Corinthians 5:13
13If we are out of our mind, it is for the sake of God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
It simply means we should be crazy when we talk about Jesus!! btw,I can't remember the way he elaborated it..too fast..can't catch it..haha..
Lastly,we should MAKE HIS NAME FAME IN OUR GENERATION!!!!

passion tour (by alister)

Sunday, August 10, 2008
Passion World Tour 2008 is in KL - Sunway Convention Centre. We're already there after Sunday Service..and got tired even before the conference started. I took a nap after we got our seats while waiting for it to start. Lights off..then the screen starts with some introduction. Next minute Chris Tomlin was on stage singing - leading us to a great praise and worship session. Charlie Hall was good too. Good songs and nice music. We sang, shouted, clapped our hands, we jumped, cried and prayed - all to glorify His wonderful Name. Louie Giglio was good with his sermon. Fast and accurate. We are definitely touched by the 'fruitcake' story. I cried. Thank you for sharing it to us.

The whole place is filled with God's people and simply makes me wonders how awesome God is. Bringing people from all points of earth and worship Him together as Ephesians 4:5-6 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. Whatever I think is impossible, God says "I'm possible".

Passion team is based on Isaiah 26:8 Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.
To make His name renown (unending fame) to all nations.

2 Corinthians 5:13 If we are out of our mind, it is for the sake of God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
Oh yea..are you crazy for God? Spread the craziness around. For we are to make people around us crazy for God as well.

Passion!

Hey Yo All!!!

It's been a while... haha...
I'm here to say my piece about Passion KL.
Instead of writing alot.. I am just going to use two songs sung during that night.
Elaborate a little and you guyz can fill in the gaps yourself (=

God Of This City

You're the God of this city

You're the King of these people

You're the Lord of this nation

You are

Verse 2:

You’re the light in this darkness

You’re the hope to the hopeless

You’re the peace to the restless

You are

Pre Chorus:

There is no one like our God

There is no one like our God

Chorus:

Greater things have yet to come

Greater things are still to be done

In this city

Greater things have yet to come

Greater things are still to be done here

Notes: The title says it all.... Its wonderful to be able to proclaim that our God is the God
of this city. I mean wow... to be able to say that without getting stoned to death?
But God isn't just the God of this city. He is the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and God
Of this Universe!

Amazing Grace ( My Chains are Gone)

Amazing grace how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me

I once was lost, but now I'm found

Was blind but now I see

Chorus:

My chains are gone, I've been set free.

My God, My Savior has ransomed me.

And like a flood his mercy reigns.

Unending love, amazing grace

Verse 2:
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believed!

Verse 3:
The Lord has promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Verse 4:
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who call’d me here below,
Will be forever mine.
(Will be forever mine)
(You are forever mine)
Notes: Probably one of the songs that had been heard, sung by all in this world.
The lyrics are in itself a powerful proclamation of God's Promise and wonderful Grace
We can never understand Grace. Grace as said by the speaker of that night ( i forgot his name)

"Its not US trying to do something to GET to GOD. But GOD doing something to GET TO US.
That my friends... is Grace."

I mean, wow... what kinda god does that? only our Lord the savior who gave His only Son, Jesus Christ
The rightful and blameless one to be wronged for us. Need I say more? On the Contra ire, Grace
left me speachless.

God bless.

p/s: Those who went for Passion.. Don't forget to pray for Jakarta. We want them to have what we had
last Sunday. Pray hard for them as Manila had prayed for us. Go one step further and pray for as
many cities as you can think of!

july youth article - kindness (prepared by chermayne)

Saturday, August 2, 2008
5th July 2008

On this Saturday, we started our journey on another Fruit of the Spirit, kindness.

Uncle Charles said that kindness is to take action in filling up another's needs. If you do, the person would feel a sense of worth and value. You'd be providing hope. He defined it as "Power to meet one's needs". Kindness has the power to change one's life... or even the world!

We then watched a short clip taken from a movie. It was about a teacher who came into class asking his students what the world meant to them and how often they thought of the outside world. He then asked " What do you think the world expects from you? ". One of his students answered by saying " Nothing i guess... we're just kids. ". The teacher then gives them an assignment to think of ideas of how to change the world and put it to action. The class started to complain that it would be hard and pretty crazy. But the teacher replies, " It may be hard and crazy... but possible. ".

After the clip Uncle Charles introduced to us steps in doing that "assignment" given:

1. Put yourself in someone else's shoes.
That way, you would see the world in a different way.

2. Do not expect anything in return.
Our reward would be great in heaven.

3. Be willing to give up your convenience.
Get out of your comfort zone!

4. Remember there were people who were kind to you.
It would help you want to be kind too.

12th July 2008

The topic on today’s sharing was something quite different. We talked about self-centeredness which Josiah defines as, “The opposite of kindness”. He told us that all of us are self-centered simply because we aren’t perfect and that we are all sinners. It is all part of our sinful nature. Another reason for why we may be self-centered is because this world is like a competition of the survivor of the fittest. People are worried that if they give to others, they would be taken granted for or there wouldn’t be enough for themselves. Therefore, it is really hard to follow God’s will. But, if we live by the Spirit, it would be much easier; we would develop the fruit of kindness. Obviously, we cannot be exactly like Jesus, but it would help a lot if we are a lot more like Him and walk closer with Him. In Josiah’s words, we should all learn to be “others-centered” even though it is a tough world we live in.

19th July 2008

For today’s youth, we had it in the afternoon because we wanted a combined service with the Girls and Boys Brigade. The message that Uncle Charles brought to us was a short one on “Attitude”. He told us that we all had a choice of what attitude we want to be in. If you choose to be sad and gloomy, you can be sad and gloomy. But what benefit does it bring to you or others around you? Therefore, trying to be in a positive attitude is better.

Uncle Charles then gave us steps to help us develop a better attitude:

Start speaking positive words.

Always try to look for something good.

Beware of what is in your heart and mind.

26th July 2008

Today’s youth was a little special. We watched a show called “Pay It Forward”.

It started with a guy being held hostage by a kidnapper. A reporter then decided to go and find out what had happened. The kidnapper, trying to escape, drove a car out of the house and crashed into the reporter’s car. A guy then came up to the reporter, gave him his keys to his expensive, new car, and drove the reporter’s crashed car away. The man showed an act of extreme kindness.

The show then wound back to 4 months before this incident.

A new Social Studies teacher walks into a class full of Middle School children. He then asks a questions like, “What does the world mean to you?” “What can you do for the world?” After some ‘low self-esteem’ answers, the teacher picked up a chalk and wrote on the blackboard, “Think of an idea of how to change the world and put it into action.”

A certain boy named Trevor then decides to perform an act of kindness and invites a beggar to stay at his house. He then tells the beggar to pay it forward. The beggar paid it forward to someone else; the ‘someone’ else pays it forward to another person, etc.

So imagine if one tells another to pay it forward after an act of kindness, how quickly kindness would spread; which was exactly what happened in the show. Soon, everyone was acting kind towards each other. Trevor was then interviewed on his idea about paying it forward.

The story though, had a sad ending. Trevor was accidentally stabbed while trying to protect a boy from bullies. His interview was screened on TVs. Many people then stood outside his house with candles and flowers to pay their respects for the one who decided that he could change the world by performing one act of kindness and asking for it to be paid forward.

june youth article - joy (prepared by chermayne)

7th June 2008

This is the first week we started on learning about the Fruit of the Spirit, joy.

For this Saturday, we youth watched a movie called Patch Adams. It was about a guy called Hunter Patch Adams. In the beginning of the show, he admitted himself into the mental hospital for he thought he needed help. During the time he was there, he found out that he enjoyed helping people by helping one of the patients there and that by helping another, he helped himself in a way.

He then went to medical school. He didn't like the style of teaching in the school for he thought they were all too serious. He believed in his saying, "Use humour to take away pain." the principal however, didn't like his idea. Because of his longing to treat patients, he and his friends tarted a home where people could just come and go to be treated and not have to pay for the bills as he realized that many people don't go to the hospital for they cannot afford to pay for the medical bills.

A friend of his is thenered by one of their patients which wasn't mentally stable. Patch Adams becomes extremely upset and found that there was no point in helping people anymore. He was also all out of humour. But one day as he was sitting and thinking, a butterfly reminded him of life and then fufilled many patient's dreams.

The faculty advisor then expelles him for his "Excessive happiness..". Patch brought the matter up to the school board. He said that, "A doctor isn't just someone who delays death but improves the quality of life in the last few minutes..".

He then graduates and starts his own hospital. Doctors nowadays use his methods of doctoring of becoming a friend more than just a doctor and his "excessive happiness".

14th June 2008

For this week, we did a review on the movie "Patch Adams" we watched last week.

Elaine started in saying that, "The definition of joy is deep or execessive happiness.... We can also find joy in weird places...". We then looked up Psalm 51:8 which shows that we can experience joy even in pain, weakness, and trial.

We then discovered another point; joy is contagious. One can be strengthened by those who are full of joy. Like Patch who finds he is healed by healing another. Patch also affected many people in the movie because of the joy within him. Therefore, it works the same for us. Us having the Fruit of joy can affect many lives around us. Also, we learnt that if you focus on the problem, you'll never find the solution.

We then shared about what each of us learnt from the movie. Jonathan said he learnt about being passionate in whatever you do, Josiah said joy overcomes sorrow, Charity shared that sometimes you have to ban rules to help, and Chermayne said that it is good to help others as you can help yourself in return.

Elaine then said that "Patch Adams took the time to know his patients more personally..." which meant that we should take the time to listen to others. Douglas shared that people tell another about their problems because they just want someone to listen. If one cannot talk to another about their problems, he or she has God to talk to.

The sharing ended with joy being found in the weirdest places. Like finding joy after failing an exam, talking to a stranger, spending time with friends, going home after school, magic tricks, going online on Facebook, shopping, and even falling sick.

21st June 2008

Today was a little special. Pastor did word for Phos (when the both ICUs are combined). He started off his sermon by asking us to share our most joyful incident we can remember throughout the whole of 2008. There were answers like birthday, coming back to HLLC, exam results, and listening to his first baby cry.

Pastor again pointed out like Elaine did, that joy is very contagious. But he also added that sorrow is too. He said that we should spread the joy that the Spirit has given us. Joy that surround us daily like money, power, etc. do not last forever for the world changes. But the joy that the Spirit gives us would last forever. It is even evident in times of sorrow and pain because one day we know that we would go back to be with the Lord forever.

Pastor then gave us steps to how we can gain joy; he introduced to us the 4 I's. The first 'I' was " Invite Jesus into your life ", the second 'I' was " Insteel God's Word in your heart ", the third 'I' was " Dont insult God ", and the fourth 'I' was " Don't ignore God ".

Pastor ended by saying that joy is a by-product of obedience.

28th June 2008

Today's Word started of by everyone sharing about their joy through the week.

We then were told about the story of the chief tax collector, Zaccheus (Luke 19:1).

We were then asked the question "Can money buy joy?". There were answers like no, temporary joy and physical joy. And yes it is true, money cannot buy joy. Neither can it buy health, a happy family, happiness, or your way to heaven. Also, having money, doesn't make as any more righteous.

Chee Wai defined true joy as Living with Christ. Because when we live and walk closely with Him, we can find true, eternal joy. In conclusion, we should all spread the joy. The joy that God wants us to have and wants us to tell the world about.

POWER TO MEET CHURCH'S NEEDS...

Labels: , ,

belonging

Friday, August 1, 2008
it's another gathering

attendent: Douglas, Alister, Sheryn, Tamie, Elaine, Josiah and Chee Wai)

We are belong to God = We are belong to church (1 Corinthians 12:4-27)

  • In these few verses, it has strongly emphesize 1 word, that is ONE.
  • One = Unity = One body
  • One body have many different parts, yet all are joinning together as One (cant be seperate)

1. relationship with each other

a) we are all connected to each other

b) we are bound to each other

c) whether we know that person or like that person in the church, we are still in ONE.

d) when one part of the church suffer, the entire church will suffer (eg. if you fail to love or just hate somebody in church, all of us will be influenced. we will not able to build a strong relationship with others too)

e) like you having a selesema, not only your nose will suffer, but your entire body will suffer (Sore throat, fever, bodu ache)

2. responsible to each other

a) every people plays different roles in the church be it in small or big scale

b) different people with different gift and brings different contribution to the church

c) even there is huge differences between us, there will be in unity among us because God is with us

d) we has a responsible to perform certain contribution to each other through our gift (if we refuse to share or contribute ourselves to others, actually we are restrain other rights to receive)

e) hence we all have responsibility to each other, mutual contribution to each other (no selfishness)

So, what does it mean we are belong to church???

we are belong to each other without any selfishness and individualism (always focus I, me, myself, always self centered, independent from others, self-suffienciency and freedoom to depend yourself). we are here to show kindness to each other.

...POWER TO MEET OTHER NEEDS...
