youth fellowship

new comer: Julius

Welcome to you Julias, hope you had a wonderful time with us and you will continue to join us to have fun and to learn more about Jesus who is gracious and ever loving in the future...

Topic: WWJD (What Would Jesus Do)

Last Thursday, Alister led us in this interesting topic. Though it was a short sharing prepared by Alister, yet it was very meaningful where we were reminded to think and reflect "What Would Jesus Do" in times of trials and temptations.

Background about WWJD:
A movement began by youths in Holand. They also made a simple bracelet with WWJD on it. This was capture the attention of nationwide.

Reflection:
What will you do when you are facing a dilema or temption or difficulty in your life?
Choose a simple way out or try to obey the Lord???
eg. If you were caught by police due to speeding. What is your first thought??? To bribe or to ask for pardon from that policeman??? For most of the people, they will find an easy way out by bribing the policeman.
So what will you do as a believer of Jesus??? Let us try to learn to think what would Jesus do when He is in this situation. If you know Him, you will not bribe but rather acknowledge our wrong doings and accept a summon. Jesus never thought us to bribe but to acknowledge our sin to Him.

Answer to WWJD is not always think what He will do but rather how well we know Jesus who is our Lord. If we do not know Him, we will follow the circular way where all people in the world perceive that it is okay. When we know Him, we will know His word, His way and His plan, we will also know what we should do, what we ought not to do, attitude and character we bear which will reflect our Lord. Just like when Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness during His 40 days fasting. He never fell nor submit to Satan but rather to defend through the word of God. When we know the word, we will know how to comprehence the situation according to God's way.

Since this year youth camp theme is IMITATORS OF GOD, let us continue to pursue His word, know Him and allow Him to live in us, soon we will able to be more Christlikeness.

When our lifes are in the T-junction , where it require us to choose God's way or Worldly way, let us willing to make a correct decision where it is pleases the Lord instead we choose the way which only pleases our own selfish intention where it will lead us to eternal distruction. Let's pray for wisdom and discernment so that we able to differentiate the good and the evil one.

-WWJD-

August youth article - goodness (prepare by chermayne)

2nd August 2008
For youth, we did something special. Instead of having our usual night time meetings, we went for tracting in the afternoon! We were spread out into teams of two and given an area to give out leaflets for the kindergarten and the zoo trip. Sure we were all exhausted and tired in the end but it felt pleasing to know that we showed an act of goodness.

9th August 2008
Today we started on our journey on learning about the fruit of the Spirit, goodness! Douglas did word for Phos. He started off by asking the question, “What do you think of when you hear goodness?” There were replies like, “Oh my goodness!” and “Something good”. Douglas’ definition was something that meets someone’s definition, standard, or purpose. Just like how Joseph met God’s standard and purpose. The story of Joseph was that his brothers betrayed him because they didn’t like him and sold him off to Potiphar as a slave. While he was there, his master saw how good and hardworking he was and appointed him head amongst all the servants. Potiphar’s wife then managed to get Joseph into trouble by taking his coat and saying that he was disturbing her. Joseph was then thrown into jail. But even in jail, the jail-keeper trusted him so much because he was so good, and put Joseph in charge of the whole jail! In jail, Joseph met a baker and a cupbearer. They both had very awkward dreams of their own and felt very troubled because they didn’t know what their dreams meant. Joseph asked them what was wrong and they each shared their dreams. Joseph interpreted their dreams with the power of God and said that the cupbearer’s dream meant that he was going to be restored back to his position as a cupbearer and that the baker’s dream meant that he was going to be hung. Both of the interpretations were correct and came true. Before Joseph interpreted the cupbearer’s dream, he requested the cupbearer to remember him when he is released. But the cupbearer forgot. One day though, when Pharaoh himself had a dream where all his magicians and wise men couldn’t interpret, the cupbearer suddenly remembered that in jail, there was a man that interpreted his dreams. Joseph was called and again with the power of God, he managed to interpret Pharaoh’s dream. The dream meant that there would be 7 years of abundance in Egypt, followed by 7 years of famine. Pharaoh was so pleased with Joseph that he put Joseph in charge of the whole land. Joseph having God in him, managed to help Egypt save up for the 7 years of famine. During the time of famine, Joseph’s brother’s came to him and begged for food not knowing they were actually begging to their very own brother. Joseph could’ve easily just rejected them because of the terrible thing they did to him, instead, he granted them what they wanted. In conclusion, throughout the whole story, we can see that Joseph had goodness in him. Even though he went through rough times in his life, he managed to walk so closely with God which resulted in great things. He managed to meet God’s purpose and standards.
Today we also all became Guardian Angels because of the fruit of the spirit goodness, becoming Guardian Angels was a way to practice being good to one another.

16th August 2008
Today we had World Teach! This time though, we had a walk through the Old Testament. Again, Uncle Steven came by and gave us an amazing time. We learnt about the first 17 books of history which were about events, God’s work, the people, and the past. Then we learnt about the 5 poetry books which were about experience, God’s way, practice, and the present. And lastly, we learnt about the last 17 books of prophecy which were about expectations, God’s will, preachers, and the future. Again, he taught us actions which helped us remember the happenings in the Old Testament in order. It was once again a very fun and interesting learning experience.

23rd August 2008
On this night, we had ICU. Both the ICUs learnt about the differences of kindness and goodness. We learnt that kindness was the power to meet one’s needs and that it was more of a personality trait by the way one portrays it to another. It is also more of an individual’s thoughts and self-being. However, goodness is more of your actions. It is the act of doing good to someone even though the person doesn’t really need it. For example, Josiah said he needed new slippers. If Elaine bought him new slippers because he needed it, that was an act of kindness. But if Elaine just out of nowhere bought him a pair of new slippers even when he didn’t need it, it was an act of goodness.
In John 2:13-17, it tells about the time when Jesus cleared the temple because he was mad that people were selling things in the temple turning it into a market. Jesus showed an act of goodness because he did something harsh but for a good cause.
In conclusion, the difference between kindness and goodness is that kindness, is in one’s personality and it isn’t harsh, while goodness can be harsh and is doing something for the good of another.

a very warm welcome Andy and Jason to be part of our fellowship...ur present really encouraging...similar to those who attended...

topic: what is christian life all about???

is christianity complicate??? or is difficult or hard???during hte gathering, we conclude that christianity is not complicate cozz God give a very clear instructions to us to obey...christianity is difficult or hard to when we fail to obey Him...It is because we love to pursue our on agenda instead of God plan...

so, what is christian life all about???

it all about grace and glory...

grace - salvation is FOC...we cant earn salvation thru our own good works and own effort...we cant saved ourselves even we try very hard to earn God's favor on us...all of us are sinner and fallen short of God's glory which deserve for DEATH penalty...yet God's pardon our sin and take away our death role thru Jesus...hence, it is all about God's grace...WE ARE SAVE BY GRACE THRU FAITH...

glory - worship, honour and praise to God...God will share His glory with anybody...all glory belongs to God alone...

i think, that all...

see u next week...
